Caramel: how and for what? 2300 years of design thought

Since then, all the designers and inventors of the world have been tormented by the question - where else could a piece of burnt sugar be used?

Soon, that is, after a couple of centuries, cane sugar was gone with the ships to the Arabs and Egyptians. With the Arabs everything is clear, sugar was used for a thousand and one kind of sweetness. But ancient Egypt? It turned out that the valuable properties of caramel, namely plasticity and stickiness, were evaluated by the top itself. Local queens, artful on fabrications, until then used a mixture of honey and wax for depilation. However, caramel rip hair was easier, more pleasant and tastier.

As it was in ancient Europe, everything that fell into Egypt was taken away across all countries. Not immediately, of course, but for ten centuries the cultural heritage of the Egyptians even reached Kievan Rus. All this time, caramel managed to hide from historians' picky eyes, remaining in people's memory as a sweet dessert for the rich, and not by covering spear tips or an element of sophisticated Chinese torture. However, the quality properties of caramel gradually find their engineers.

Freshly cooked caramel is elastic. She can be given any shape, would be enough imagination. The easiest way, of course, is to break an already frozen sample into pieces and declare yourself a cubist. However, in everyday life cakes are easily decorated with sweet curls, leaves and flowers, cut from a still warm layer. And the Chinese for their Chinese holidays erect whole caramel dragons. Probably hoping that the caramel dragon fillet gives eternal youth no worse than the present.

Caramel sticks. What is in ancient India, that now, caramel first smear everything around, and then eat. Spitting from the villi and tightly fused pieces of the wrapper. The French deftly used this quality and invented the croquembush cake. Collected from eclairs glued with caramel, it is not limited in size and can rise above the guests of the festival, proudly supporting the ceiling. And flies stick to it well. Probably, then they invented the tape-Velcro for insects.

In caramel, you can roll up any product. This is usually done with apples or nuts. But here are some German doctors, or rather Herr Karl Soldan, a century ago, he fed his sick child so much. Just by boiling the caramel with bitter medicinal herbs. My daughter liked the refutation of the postulate about the bitterness of drugs, and now it is a whole trademark.

In general, the combination of caramel with children gives a special design effect. If you give a child candy on a stick, then he will soon come running, carrying a collection of various stuck items. Do not scold him, but try to carefully clean. Perhaps one day you will find a golden duplon on it! And the stick in caramel itself is also an invention. She was invented in history many times - as a special convenient option for the nobility. Although the laurels of the first factory manufacturer belong to Enrique Bernat, the author of Chupa-Chups.

But, most importantly, caramel is still sweet. Let someone plaste her walls, and someone puts on someone else's chair, caramel - until unsurpassed delicacy. Even diabetics can enjoy it, because the perverted scientific thought has already presented people sugarless caramel. However, human imagination is unlimited, and who knows if simple candy will become tomorrow the key to the Far Space! All in our hands.
